Thinking of spending your honeymoon in Santorini?

Many people consider the Greek island of Santorini to be a dream vacation destination, and for obvious reasons. It’s an enchanting island complete with iconic white architecture that contrasts with the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches. The coastline is stunning, and the sunsets are so gorgeous they need to be seen in person to be truly appreciated.

Because of its stunning beauty, the island of Santorini is also one of the most romantic destinations in the world, making it a prime spot for honeymooners.

Here are some tips on how to plan the perfect honeymoon in Santorini and make it the trip of a lifetime.

Getting there

Typically, flights will be routed through Athens where you’ll likely have a layover. You will then need to find your way to Santorini, and luckily there are options: you can travel by plane or by ferry. If you choose to fly into Santorini, you will fly into Thira, but be prepared for a long layover.

The flights into Athens from international destinations don’t generally line up with the flights into Thira, so you may be spending a few hours (or even a night) waiting for your next flight.

Taking the ferry is a more cost-efficient way to travel, though it does take longer to reach your destination. Ferries are also a good way to island-hop if you want to see more than one Greek island on your trip.

Where to stay

There are budget-friendly options in Santorini when it comes to accommodation. However, your honeymoon should be extra special, so why not splurge on something more extravagant?

You can rent a villa in Santorini that will make you feel like you’re living the life of luxury and also make your whole trip more memorable.

What to eat

Some of the best food in the world is found in Greece, so you can’t visit without trying some local delicacies. Vegetarians, rejoice – Greek cuisine is mostly made with vegetables, so there’s plenty of healthy food to enjoy without worrying about counting calories.

For a romantic setting, you won’t have to look far, since there are many restaurants that offer stunning views.

Plan your activities

Although the island is small, there’s plenty to do besides lying on the beach all day.

Spending your days engaged in activities is a sure-fire way to make sure your honeymoon is memorable and exciting. Of course, there are the world-famous Oia sunsets, so be sure to hike up to a good spot to watch and get some beautiful photos.

There are also plenty of other things to do, like wandering through Fira, the island’s main city, where you can find tons of white and blue houses and infinity pools, cafes, intriguing alleyways, and cute shops.

You could also take a caldera cruise around neighbouring islands to visit a volcanic crater, hot springs, and enjoy stunning views of the cliffs and beaches, or spend time lying on the beaches and relaxing in the sun.
