Swimming with whale sharks

1. Swim with whale sharks

One of the most popular things to do in Cebu is to swim with the whale sharks in Oslob. These friendly creatures are somewhat domesticated so they are not afraid of the presence of humans. In fact, they tend to go very close to the shore since they are often fed by locals.

You can ride a paddle-boat while being surrounded by these gentle giants. An accompanying boatman will guide you into the sea so you get to swim with the whale sharks in a safe and responsible manner. Swimmers are not allowed to touch the whale sharks and a distance of 4 feet must be observed.

2. Explore spectacular canyons

If you want a more thrilling adventure, then you should go canyoning in Badian. You’ll be traversing along canyons and jumping into waterfalls and pools as you follow a guide.

The journey starts at the Kanlaob River in the town of Alegria and ends at Kawasan Falls. To take part in this outdoor activity, you’ll have to go to the town of Alegria, which is a 3-hour drive from Cebu. Although there are buses that travel along this route, renting a car is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Alegria. You’ll find plenty of Cebu car rental companies that offer affordable rates, so check them out when planning your trip.

Recommendation: Plan an adventure-packed day by pairing whale shark swimming with canyoneering in Kawasan Falls.

Diving in Cebu

3. Go diving

Home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, Cebu is a top destination for diving, boasting spectacular diving sites. When diving in Cebu, you’ll come across thresher sharks, school of sardines, colorful coral gardens, and other breathtaking marine creatures.

Malapascua Island is one of the best diving destinations in Cebu. However, getting there would require a four-hour drive to a port where you can take a boat that will take you to the island. You can take the bus to the port or get in touch with car rentals in Cebu to hire a car.

If you don’t want to go that far, Olango Island is a great alternative. It’s closer to Cebu City and is known for having colourful coral gardens that are a joy to explore.
